Learning Our ABCs with Cookies

I’m always looking for creative ways to make learning fun for my kids. Now that Brady is in school, he loves doing activities like this when he gets home. It reinforces what he’s learning in the day and boosts his self-esteem by showing me how much he knows. And with Parker starting Pre-K in less than a year, I want to be sure I’m using pieces of our days together constructively preparing her for school. Bonus points if it’s disguised as fun!

I saw these adorable alphabet cookies on Trader Joe’s Instagram and knew they’d be great for a learning activity. Not to mention they’re cookies! If you like snickerdoodles, you’ll love these little fellas. Our whole family eats them up!

Putting this together was super simple!

I grabbed some construction paper and wrote out the alphabet on each page using Parker’s favorite neon crayons. To keep cookie portions small, I placed a handful in a cup for them to share. I let them battle it out from there to see who can fill out their page first. Brady yells out his letters as he goes and we identify Parker’s letters with her when she finishes her page. There are so many different ways you can carry out this activity. Maybe that’s why the kids love it so much! Or maybe it’s just the cookies. Either way, it keeps them busy and encourages their cognitive development (even if they don’t know it).

Stay tuned for more kid-friendly activities here on House of Kubes! I always receive so much positive feedback when I share these things on Instagram, so I figured it was time to start sharing them here as well!

Happy learning!
